Growing and nourishing your hair - part 2!

Now that we have our products recommendations down (check out part 1 if you haven’t already), let’s talk about product usage and tips & tricks for haircare.

Part 2

Product Usage

Supplements: Taking supplements daily is a simple way to support your hair's health from the inside out.

Hair Oils: I recommend incorporating hair oils into your routine about once a week. For added benefits, try applying heat (like a heat cap) or even sitting in the sun for about 20 minutes. This extra step helps the oil penetrate deeper into your hair, leaving it soft and nourished.

Shampoos & Conditioner: Here’s a game changer: try washing your hair less often. I know it sounds tough, but trust me—it’s totally doable! There might be a short adjustment period as your scalp gets used to it, especially if you’re switching to cleaner products, but just stick with it. The results are so worth it. I used to wash my hair daily or every other day, but now I just wash it once a week, and I don’t struggle with oiliness every day like I used to. Yes, it’s possible—and your scalp will learn to balance itself!

P.S. One reason your hair may go through a transition period when using a cleaner shampoo/conditioner is because of the detox period. Your scalp is used to producing excess oils because of the harsher ingredients in conventional shampoos, and when you switch to gentler products, your scalp takes time to recalibrate

Hair Conditioning Spray: I’d recommend using a conditioning spray 1-2 times a week, right after you shampoo. This can provide some extra hydration and help detangle your hair, leaving it feeling soft and manageable.

Tips & Tricks

1. Preventing Strain & Breakage: Soft braids may become your new best friend. Tight hairstyles—think tight ponytails or buns—can cause unnecessary stress on your hair and lead to breakage. Looser, softer braids will help keep your hair in place without causing strain. So, let’s take a break from the tight pulls!

2. Switch to a Silk or Satin Pillowcase: This one’s a game changer for both your hair and skin! Silk and satin pillowcases reduce friction, helping to minimize hair breakage and frizz. Plus, they’re gentle on your skin, too! If you’re looking for a little luxury in your routine, this is a great (and easy!) upgrade.

3. Switch to Silk or Satin Hair Ties: The right hair tie can make a big difference. Go for silk or satin hair ties instead of regular elastic ones to avoid breakage and minimize damage. These materials are gentle on your hair, so you won’t end up with those frustrating kinks or unwanted breakage.

4. Don't Overwash: I can't emphasize this enough—overwashing is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when it comes to healthy hair. Frequent washing strips your scalp of its natural oils, which can lead to dryness, scalp irritation, and even more oil production as your scalp tries to compensate. Aim to reduce how often you wash your hair, and let your scalp find its natural balance. The fewer times you wash, the healthier your hair will be in the long run.

5. Invest in a Shower Filter: This is one of my personal favorite hair care hacks! A high-quality shower filter can remove chlorine, heavy metals, and minerals like calcium and magnesium, all of which can cause dryness, damage, and dullness to your hair. You’ll be amazed at how much softer your hair feels once the water quality improves.
